Discussion ranged from radiation and health to C-10's watchdog efforts

Mary Jacobsen is the host of the Morning Show.

C-10 Research and Education Foundation’s Executive Director Natalie Hildt Treat and Board Member Christopher Nord visited the Newburyport-based talk show "The Morning Show" on March 11.

Host Mary Jacobsen asked Treat for updates on stricter new concrete monitoring requirements for Seabrook Station that came about as a result of C-10’s decade-long effort, and why the US needs better regulations governing aging atomic reactors.

Nord discussed the health effects of radiation exposure in light of the 10th anniversary of the nuclear disaster at Fukushima, which began on March 11, 2011. Treat also talked about improvements to the airborne radiological monitoring network, the only one of its kind in the country. C-10 is applying for grant funding to make make the network more resilient in the face of extreme weather.

Tritium is a radioactive byproduct of nuclear fission, found in abundance in nuclear wastewater. The Cape Cod community wants to be safe from it, corporate industry and regulators want to dump into the air and water and forget it ever existed.

C-10 does not agree with the NRC's assertion that "everything is fine, nothing to see here" when it comes to Seabrook Station repeatedly failing inspections.
