Three of C-10’s old sensors — refurbished by the radiation detection company
International Medcom
— are now at work doing real-time monitoring in Fukushima, Japan following the nuclear meltdown that was caused by a 2011 earthquake. The monitors are providing immediate readings and data for specific sites, which is being recorded; these are the only stationary real-time monitors in the region. Other monitoring is being done with mobile
bGeigies
from International Medcom.
Data from our sensors is recorded by
Safecast
— an international, volunteer-centered organization devoted to open citizen science for the environment. We are proud to be able to assist the victims of this tragedy in understanding radiation levels in and around their city.
